A team on a run

“WalkWorks ChesCo! gives us more opportunities and encouragement for physical activity -- activity that is easy and that only requires a pair of comfortable walking shoes -- that is challenging us to be creative in the ways that we get more steps into our daily routine, and that promotes good physical and mental health.” - Chester County Commissioners Michelle Kichline, Kathi Cozzone and Terence Farrell

Location: Chester County, Pennsylvania, population 515,939

The Problem: Adults are reporting low levels of physical activity.

Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Approach: The WalkWorks ChesCO! Program will promote, educate and empower individuals to adopt a healthier lifestyle by encouraging residents to walk more, creating a positive effect on both physical and mental health. Although individuals make the decision to walk, their choice can be facilitated by programs, environments and policies that foster opportunities for walking. The program will focus on areas where residents are experiencing higher rates of poverty and chronic disease and lower rates of physical activity.
