Project focus: Access to foods that support healthy eating patterns

Orange County Department of Community Health Outreach, along with Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Orange Regional Medical Center, St. Anthony Community Hospital, House of Refuge Church, Cornerstone Family Healthcare WIC Program and Orange County Office for the Aging, strives to reduce chronic disease and support partnerships that strengthen the county’s ability to identify and actively refer food insecure residents to food programs.

The Healthy Orange team engages three county hospitals, a faith-based partner, and community members to strengthen systems and connect residents to the resources they need. Together, the team will improve coordination among various institutions to align food insecurity screening and referral, all while building their hospital staff’s knowledge of food assistance programs. Finally, the project hopes to establish prescription to produce programs between hospitals and local farmers markets, further advancing the county’s commitment to food accessibility and nutrition education!
