The Problem: The city experiences incidences of threats, crime, violence and weapons confiscation in the general community and in schools.

Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Approach: The Mind/Spirit/Body Project is an innovative approach to reframing the way we think about and react to violence in a city environment, especially violence that impacts and influences youth populations. By reclassifying community violence as a health issue, the project offers a different perspective by implementing healthy behaviors as a strategy for reducing violence. The Mind/Spirit/Body project will take a holistic health approach and will serve youth though activities that support healthy development of the mind, spirit and body with the intent of reducing violence in the community.
