“Thanks to the THRIVE! Challenge DPCS stepped way outside of their traditional wellness activities and tried something new… kickball. The team didn’t take home many wins but they did take home lots of laughs, great memories, sore muscles and appreciation for the bodies they once had. Healthiest Cities & Counties Challenge Approach: Our region’s greatest asset is our people and a healthy population is key to our social, economic and physical vitality. A group of passionate professionals from different sectors have come together to address our region’s health challenges. Now known as The Health Collaborative, we have created a set of shared goals, strategies and actionable steps that are sustainable and can positively influence the health behaviors and outcomes of residents in the region. Through the creation of action teams focused on active living healthy eating, access to healthcare, and healthy spaces, The Health Collaborative is actively engaging the community to create an environment that supports health for all in the Dan River Region. The resulting 10-year regional plan – Health for All is a blueprint for ACTION for removing barriers to health equity in the region.
